PRIMA Scientific Director Karl-Johan Malmberg and Project Manager Ebba Sohlberg have for many years worked together with their teams at Karolinska Institutet, Stockholm and University of Oslo and Oslo University Hospital to develop a new cell therapy product towards cancer. This cell therapy is based on Natural Killer (NK) cells coming from healthy donors, and particularly on a subset of highly potent adaptive NK cells. The therapeutic cells can be stored for future use, making it more like an “off the shelf” product. The Malmberg team will in the near future start testing the treatment on adult patients with certain types of blood cancers, and if the results are positive, it may also allow them to proceed with studies on children with hard-to-treat cancers.
